Your car rides on a truck like this one
What is open car transport?
Open car transport, also called open auto transport, means your car travels on an open carrier, the kind you see hauling cars down the interstate, alongside other customers’ cars. Because one truck carries several cars, open transport costs less than an enclosed trailer, which carries fewer.
Nothing covers your car, so it gets the same rain and road dust it would if you drove it there yourself. For most cars, that means a wash when it arrives.
Open carriers are all we run. If you’re shipping a classic or a car you’d never take out in the rain, you may want an enclosed trailer instead. Our open vs enclosed guide can help you decide.
From pickup to delivery
Is open car shipping safe?
Our own drivers carry your car from pickup to delivery, and its condition is written down at both ends.
We check it with you
At pickup, you and our driver walk around the car and mark any scratches or dents on an inspection sheet. You both sign it.
Our driver loads it
Your car goes on one of our carriers. It doesn’t get handed off to a trucker we hired for the job.
It travels with us
It rides down I-95 on our truck. Our terminals and transport yards are locked, covered by cameras and staffed around the clock.
We check it again
At delivery, you and our driver or one of our staff go over the car against the pickup sheet and sign it again.
We’re fully insured for the vehicles we haul. If you want to see the coverage before pickup, ask us and we’ll go over it with you.
When we go
How long does open car transport take?
We run the same trip every week, so you know your pickup and delivery days when you book.
Holidays can move these days. When you call, we’ll tell you which schedule your date falls on. Every trip needs a reservation, and snowbird trips fill up months ahead, so most people book 90 days or more before they want to go.

Carrier, not a broker
Most car shipping companies you’ll find in a search are brokers
That’s a normal way to do business, but it changes who you’re dealing with. Our guide explains how brokers and carriers differ.
When you book with a broker
You pay the broker, and the broker usually posts your car for an independent trucker to pick up. Your pickup date can depend on when a trucker takes the job at the broker’s price.
The company you talked to isn’t the company driving your car.
When you book with Geyers
You’re talking to the company that owns the carrier and employs the driver. Your car goes on our scheduled weekly trip, and you know the pickup day when you book.
If you have a question on the way, you call the same number you booked with.

“Every Autumn my husband and I go down to Florida to visit family and it’s always a challenge trying to find a reliable auto transport to get our car down there. This year we found Geyer’s Towing and these guys were amazing! They had a great price and they took our car south for us without a hitch. If you need an auto transport company you can trust, definitely give them a call!”Ann K., Maryland to Florida · Google review
“I called Geyer’s Towing to ship my car from DC to south Florida when me and my family moved. We have multiple cars, so the cost to ship 2 out of the 3 vehicles was less expensive than driving all three down (and much safer for my family!) They did a great job and there was no damage to the vehicle. The driver was professional and courteous, and he arrived on time to pick up the car. He drove it safely to Florida, and kept me updated along the way. I would definitely use their services again if I ever need to ship a car.”Hans C., DC to south Florida · Google review
“My family and I have been using (Steve) Geyers Transportation Services for at least 10 years. These are Only people I will use to take my cars back n forth from DC area to Florida! It may not be cheap, but then peace of mind isn’t either!”John C., DC area to Florida · Google review
